

Friendswood is a residential community on Farm Road 518 and is twenty miles south of Houston. It was founded by a colony of English Quakers that had traveled to Texas and setup homes in Estacado in 1880. They found the plains of Texas to be inhospitable so they used Fancis Brown, a famed buffalo hunter, to find new land for them. Brown located 1,500 acres in south Texas and negotiated with its owners for it in 1895. The original settlers in Estacado moved in shortly after and built traditional homes. The town was named after its denomination, The Religious Society of Friends.
Pearland on the other hand is a town located a few miles west of Friendswood. It first became a sliding switch for the Santa Fe Railway in 1882. The town was name Mark Belt first when its post office was established. The name was changed shortly afterward to Pearland due to the number of pear trees in town. The town grew quickly and by 1898 it had a population of 75 people. In addition it has over 12 businesses that supplied goods and services to the residents and the surrounding areas. It was said to be an agricultural eden by those that were promoting it.
Currently both Friendswood and Pearland are vibrant towns that maintain a high quality of living while keeping their small town charm. The towns have a combined population of over forty thousand residents. They are still growing and continue to have their economies rocket skyward. The towns are also conveniently located near the Houston area. A hot bed of technical and manufacturing work which allows any career goals to be met.
